Wood Pellet Hoppers

Wood Pellet Boilers need to have access to a dry, secure store of Wood Pellet fuel, which provides a reliable supply of quality wood pellets, in order to be able to operate both effectively and efficiently.

In many cases, Wood Pellet Hoppers are located indoors, in either a small shed or a garage, adjacent to the Boiler. However, in other cases, this option isn’t available, and an external Wood Pellet Hopper which can be located beside or behind the Boiler house is the most practical solution.

Wood Pellets are fed from the external Wood Pellet Hopper via an auger or a vacuum feed system, in exactly the same way as they are fed from an internal storage area, into the Wood Pellet Boiler.

External Wood Pellet Hoppers will typically store 3-4 tonnes of Wood Pellet fuel. In certain markets (e.g. Republic of Ireland) the government provides incentives to encourage domestic customers to allow for adequate Wood Pellet bulk storage capacity. Domestic customers in Ireland require a minimum bulk storage capacity of 3 tonnes in order to qualify for a grant for a Wood Pellet Boiler.

From a cost perspective this also makes good sense, as the bulk delivery price per tonne is significantly lower than that of bagged pellets.

A properly installed Wood Pellet Hopper system ensures that the pellets are kept free from damp and condensation while allowing for a simple and straightforward feed to the boiler. A well designed Hopper will also have a dual coupling system that will allow for dust to be extracted at the same time as pellets are being blown into the hopper.
