Heat Pump technology is both an environmentally friendly and cost-effective way of heating your home. Heat energy for use in a Heat Pump is derived from 4 main sources:
Heat pumps use much less energy than conventional heating systems, since they draw heat from a Ground, Air or Water source. They are one of the most efficient ways to heat and provide hot water for your home, not only saving energy and money, but also reducing air pollution.
One of the ways in which the efficiency of a Heat Pump can be assessed is via its Coefficient of Performance (or COP). This measures the amount (kWs) of heat energy that is produced for every kW of electricity used to drive the Heat Pump. A typical COP for a Heat Pump would be between 2.5 and 4.5.
The higher the COP, the more efficient the system and the greater the cost savings over time. All told, Heat Pumps can help you to save up to 60-70% of your heating costs on an annual basis.
While Heat Pumps are traditionally a low temperature system, constant innovation and investment in technology now means that certain heat pump models can now heat water up to 80°C.
