Enerfina Savings Calculator

Welcome to the Enerfina Fuel Savings Calculator. From here you will be able to get a sense of the potential cost savings available by making the switch to green energy solutions. Use the calculator to compare the cost of your current heating solution with a green energy solution. Input the approximate size of your home (in sq. meters) and click on "Calculate Savings" to see the savings you could achieve over a 25 year period.

The calculator presents yearly and cumulative cost comparisons between your current heating solution with a green energy solution. Note: All resultant data is intended to be INDICATIVE only.

Energy Comparison

Assumptions

To simplify the calculation and allow for a quick cost/savings comparison, Enerfina has assumed the following static factors (as of January 2008):

  1. Owners of Oil & Gas boilers incur no investment cost, i.e. we have assumed that they have fully paid off their oil and gas boiler
  2. If you select to "Pay in Full", our model assumes a full payment up front (net of any Government grants)
  3. Required investment amount is net of any government grants:
    • Boiler plus Install & Commission - €5000 (standard grant €3000)
    • Heat Pump Install & Commission - €7000 (standard grant €2500)
  4. All investments are fully financed with unsecured loans at a rate of 5% APR.
  5. All loans are paid off over a 7 year term
  6. A wood pellet fuel cost of €235 per tonne is used in calculations (w/ 5% increases p.a.)
  7. Home heating oil is costed at €0.72/litre (based on commercial market prices - Jan. 2008) and assuming 7.5% increases p.a.
  8. Electricity is costed at the General Domestic Rate - €0.163/kWh
  9. Natural gas is costed at a Standard Rate - €0.06/kWh (based on the SEI fuel comparison sheet - Oct. 2007)
  10. Boiler efficiencies are assumed as follows:
    • Wood Pellet - 90%
    • Oil & Gas - 70%
  11. Energy content of fuel:
    • Wood Pellet - 4.8 kWh/kg
    • Oil - 10.55 kWh/litre
  12. Annual Maintenance Costs of €100, increasing by 1.5% p.a., apply
