Sustainable Energy Ireland (SEI) - what do they do?

SEI is the Government body responsible for promoting the development of sustainable energy in Ireland. They are involved in a range of green initiatives that are described on their website. SEI offer a range of grants to homeowners in their Greener Homes Scheme. Grants are available for certain products in the following categories.

Which energy efficiency project should I take on?

In many cases, a number of green technologies can be installed to your home or building to improve energy efficiency and reduce costs. More often, the question is ‘which one should I do first and why’.

A common way of choosing between a number of energy efficiency improvement projects is to compare upfront, the indicative pay-back periods, i.e. how long does it take for a standard project to recover the initial outlay and start reducing overall costs.

Using pay-back comparisons you can assess which project delivers the benefits you want, in a reasonable time period, to a particular budget.

How does the process work?

The Enerfina website will allow customers to investigate and size various green energy solutions for their homes. To develop a potential solution we need to ask basic information about your home and your location. Where Enerfina don’t already have an agreement in place with a proven Installer for the system selected by the customer, we will focus on concluding this agreement in an accelerated timescale, so as not to impact the customer’s installation schedule. Enerfina will store all customer solutions on our system for a period of time until we are instructed to move the process forward.

The 10 key steps in the process are:

  1. We will arrange a site survey using one of our proven Installers once the customer has contracted with us and remitted funds to our account to cover site survey costs.
  2. On receipt of funds we will confirm contract arrangements with our proven Installer.
  3. The Installer will come to your home and confirm that the solution is appropriate (or not, depending on conditions).
  4. If the solution is confirmed and the customer decides to continue then Enerfina will complete the SEI grant approval form.
  5. Only when the customer is approved by the SEI for a grant does the next stage of the process begin.
  6. Enerfina will execute contract clauses that bind the Installer and Supplier to agreed discounts.
  7. The customer remits the balance of the funds (at the discounted level).
  8. Enerfina contractually confirms supply dates with the Supplier.
  9. Enerfina contractually confirms installation dates with the Installer and the customer.
  10. Enerfina pays the Supplier and Installer on successful installation and commissioning of the product.
