What is Green Electricity?
Green electricity is electricity sourced from clean renewable or sustainable sources such as wind power, solar energy, biomass energy and hydropower. A source of energy is deemed renewable if it can be replenished at the same rate that it is used. However, most of our power still comes from non-renewable sources such as burning fossil fuels like oil and gas which both emit greenhouse gases.
Tariffs - what do you need to know
The Commission for Energy Regulation (CER) is the body responsible for regularly setting the price for various categories of energy consumers. The rates that apply to each category are called tariffs. Licensed suppliers can offer their electricity in some or all of these categories - prices for each of the categories can vary by supplier. This means that customers considering switching should carefully assess their usage profiles to determine which supplier is best positioned to offer the best deal.
